Grief Counselling

"The task of grief is to live with what has been lost, to bring it into the heart, and hold it with tenderness."
Francis Weller

Grief is a deeply personal and often overwhelming response to loss. While everyone’s journey is unique, losing a loved one can leave us feeling untethered, uncertain, or struggling to cope with the depth of our emotions. Grief counselling offers a compassionate space to process your pain, explore your feelings, and begin to navigate life after loss.

For many, grief is tied to the death of someone close—a parent, partner, child, or dear friend. However, grief can also arise in response to other significant losses or changes. Whether your grief is related to a death or another major loss, this is a space to honour your experience, at your own pace, and find a path forward that feels right for you.

Understanding Grief
Grief isn’t just about sadness—it can bring a wave of emotions, including guilt, anger, numbness, or even relief. It’s not a linear process, and there’s no “right” way to grieve. You might feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to move forward. Grief counselling offers a space where all of these feelings are welcome, without judgment or expectation.

Grief can feel isolating, but with the right support, it is possible to heal, find meaning in your loss, and move forward in a way that honours the person you’ve lost and the life you are continuing to live.

My Approach to Grief Counselling

Through my extensive hospice work and experience supporting people through death and major life transitions, I have developed a deep understanding of the complexities of grief. I approach grief counselling with compassion and flexibility, recognising that each person’s grief process is different.

In our sessions, I provide a safe, supportive environment where you can express your feelings without judgment. Together, we’ll explore the unique challenges you're facing, helping you process the pain, confusion, and emotions that arise when you’ve lost someone important in your life.

With a background in hospice care, academic research into grief, and participation in Death Café events, I offer a grounded and compassionate approach to grief counselling. I’ve supported individuals and families navigating bereavement, major life transitions, and the search for meaning during profound change.

Why Grief Counselling?
Talking to friends or family about your loss can be comforting, but grief counselling offers something different—a dedicated, confidential space to focus on you and your experience. Whether you’re feeling stuck in your grief, struggling to manage daily life, or simply needing someone to walk alongside you during this time, counselling can provide the support you need.

Grief can be a long and winding road. It's normal to feel overwhelmed by the emotions that come with loss, and sometimes, it can feel like there’s no way out of the pain. Grief counselling offers:

  • A confidential, non-judgmental space to talk about your loss and how it’s affecting you.

  • Support to process complex emotions like anger, guilt, sadness, and confusion.

  • Guidance to help you make sense of your feelings and find a way to move forward.

  • A chance to reconnect with yourself and rediscover hope, meaning, and a sense of peace.

  • A Safe Space for Your Grief

I believe that every person’s grief journey is valid. Whether you’re dealing with an expected loss, a sudden bereavement, or a more complex situation like the loss of a strained or unresolved relationship, you’ll find a space in our sessions where your story is seen and valued.

Who I Work With
Grief counselling can be helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • The death of a loved one.

  • Anticipatory grief (grieving before a loss occurs, such as during a loved one’s terminal illness).

  • Complicated or prolonged grief.

  • Loss of a relationship, job, or identity.

  • Major life transitions, including retirement, divorce, or empty nesting.

  • The challenges of supporting others while navigating your own grief.

Flexible Support, Wherever You Are
I offer grief counselling both in-person in Gloucestershire and online, providing flexibility to meet your needs, no matter where you’re based. Sessions are tailored to your unique experience and what feels most helpful for you in the moment.
